Going to a scientific conference in another country and having a few days holiday afterwards is pretty much ideal:)

Going on holiday! But the best holidays are the ones where you can learn something too. It’s not bad to take a break from science and learn more about culture and nature of another country 🙂

Why choose? I agree with Siana!

One of the perks of doing science is that you get to travel to go to conferences in other countries, and it’s pretty easy to add on a little holiday before or after as your flights are already paid for. I’ve applied for extra money in the past to go on training courses too, which are sometimes in exciting places. Over the last 3 years during my PhD I have been to Singapore, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Burkina Faso (west Africa) and will be going to the Gambia (also west Africa) in February to work in a lab there for a month!

But to answer your question seriously, I think you need to have holidays in any job so that you can have a break and come back refreshed. I often do m best planning on the plane home from a holiday as I am excited to get back to work. 🙂
