Exercise is the greatest medicine known to man for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Low fitness is the biggest predictor of death. When we exercise it maintains or increases our muscle mass. This is useful as it allows us to function independently from day to day but also because it uses the fuel we eat which stops us becoming over weight. Weight bearing exercise has been shown to increase bone mineral density which reduces our risk of fracture. Aerobic exercise such as walking has been shown to increase brain white matter volume and cognitive function in older adults. Exercise generally leads to a reduction in fat mass and blood pressure which means it helps to keep our heart healthy too. To answer your question it changes our bodies for the better 🙂
