Peter Francis answered on 12 Nov 2015:

The study of exercise physiology has led us to understand the appropriate training intensities for athletes to improve their physiology. The study of biomechanics has led to the understanding of the more efficient types of swimming strokes. The study of strength and conditioning has led to us understanding that stronger athletes are more efficient in the water. Exercise science has a large role in swimming! I used to assess the Irish team hydration, body composition and how much lactic acid they produced when swimming. I was a national runner! I know how hard it can be, good luck with it!
