• Question: What happens when you put a orange in acid

      HI cam34,

      i guess it depends on how strong the acid. We use a type of acid in the lab that will dissolve bone so in that case an orange would be no problem. However, the inside of an orange is itself acidic so, if you put that into another weak acid, then probably nothing. If you were to squeeze an orange into something basic (like a solution of baking soda, for example) the acid and base might react and start to fizz – but don’t try that at home….
