Hmm I will keep thinking and see if I remember anything else… but one time I participated in one of the studies in our lab which meant I donated a 50ml blood sample. So I went downstairs to the first aid room to do this, then went back upstairs to our lab and about five minutes later someone came and gave me this tube of blood which I knew was mine. It was still warm! That was pretty weird so think just a moment ago it had been in my arm that was now processing it.
But don’t worry, there are lots of strict rules in place so that no one ever feels obligated to donate blood and more rules about how often you can do it. I think at some institutions you actually aren’t allowed to donate blood to your own studies.
I think the strangest was when Prince Charles came to visit where I was working one day. We knew what time he was coming so we ran out of the lab mid-experiment, spoke to the future king, then 20mins later were back in work. It was a really surreal feeling!
